About ASEC

History

The American Savings Education Council (ASEC) was formed in 1994 by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Employee Benefit Research Institute. Acquired by the Bipartisan Policy Center in 2022, ASEC has relaunched activities in support of its 100+ members across the nonprofit, academic, trade association, corporate, and government sectors.

ASEC convenes industry representatives, regulators and lawmakers, and other key stakeholders to foster open dialogue and advance momentum on key issues surrounding financial well-being.

Mission

The American Savings Education Council’s (ASEC) mission is to promote cross-sector collaboration to eliminate barriers and pave the way towards a more financially secure future for all.

We realize this goal through our collective efforts to convene, collaborate, and educate. ASEC has the power to make a substantial and lasting impact on the financial well-being of Americans.

Objectives

To best navigate today’s complex economic landscape, Americans want tools to inform their decisions to save, budget, invest, and borrow. ASEC’s primary objective is to streamline and simplify the often-burdensome bureaucratic processes that impede access to such resources and progress on critical household financial and retirement security issues.

By promoting education, eliminating barriers, and fostering interagency and cross-sector collaboration, ASEC strives to pave the way towards a more secure and prosperous future for individuals and families across the nation.

Private Thought Convener

ASEC’s commitment to fostering productive and action-oriented dialogue is evidenced by an emphasis on closed-door sessions, which encourage members to engage openly, challenge assumptions, and collaboratively devise concrete steps for progress. Through private networking opportunities and roundtable discussions, members will have an opportunity to engage directly with peers to share perspectives and exchange best practices.

Cross-Sector Collaborator

ASEC leverages the position and expertise of its members to cut through red tape and facilitate public-private collaboration that spurs cooperation and unlocks innovation. Our unique structure fosters open and constructive dialogue to address existing barriers to building household financial resilience.

Education Resource Hub

ASEC brings together practitioners, thought leaders, advocates, and policymakers to share and exchange expertise and research. ASEC translates and showcases this work into highly visible and valuable educational resources to member stakeholders and the public, and creates opportunities for members to partner on future initiatives.
