Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking Annual Report

The Trustees of the Social Security and Medicare trust funds will release updated projections for the programs’ finances imminently. Last year the Trustees report indicated that Social Security’s primary trust fund, the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund, is on track to deplete its reserves in 2033, and Medicare’s Hospital Insurance trust fund is on track to do so by 2031. Join BPC’s Marilyn Serafini and Emerson Sprick as they break down what the updated projections mean for the millions of Americans who rely on these critical programs and the urgency for policymakers to act.

Since 2013, the Federal Reserve Board has conducted the Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking (SHED), which measures the economic well-being of U.S. households and identifies potential risks to their finances. The survey includes modules on a range of topics of current relevance to financial well-being including credit access and behaviors, savings, retirement, economic fragility, and education and student loans. Join Federal Reserve Board representatives for a private briefing on findings from the 2024 SHED report.
