OCTOBER 19-25, 2008 DECLARED NATIONAL SAVE FOR RETIREMENT WEEK

On June 26, 2008 Congress passed H.Res. 1294 Sponsored by Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) and Congressman Sam Johnson (R-TX). Both Representatives mentioned EBRI research in their floor speeches.

EBRI and ASEC support National Save for Retirement Week October 19-25, 2008 and will work to promote the ideals behind the Week.

The National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators has creeated a web site with resources and tools for National Save for Retirement Week.

ASEC CHAIRMAN DALLAS SALISBURY TESTIFIES ON THE HILL

ASEC Chairman Dallas Salisbury testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, Selected Revenue Measures Subcommittee during the Subcommittee's hearing, The Role of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) in the U.S. Retirement System.

Dallas testified on the topic, IRAs in the American Retirement System.

Dallas testified on the topic, "Financial Literacy and Financial Education".

RETIREE HEALTH SAVINGS: HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?

Health care expenses in retirement are a major concern for Americans.  According to the 2008 Retirement Confidence Survey, 44 percent of retirees say they spend more on health care in retirement than they expected.

New computer simulation analysis by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) provides the most realistic estimates yet conducted of how much savings are needed to cover health expenses in retirement, taking into account such major factors as gender, marital status, age, and whether your former employer provides any help with retiree health insurance.
